New Construction

The Memorial Construction Project

In August of 2009, with the successful completion of the Fulton construction project behind them, the Board of Education began discussions about renovations to Memorial School. While several small remodeling projects had taken place at Memorial over the years, the Board decided on a long-term strategy to keep the building up to date for the future, and a master renovation plan was developed. Major projects were begun during the summer of 2010 and substantial completion of phase I was scheduled for November of 2010.

Memorial's renovations will provide upgrades that are already present in other District schools. These include:

  • A soft playground area for students
  • ADA compliant classrooms
  • New administrative and nurse's office which will allow for special equipment
  • New faculty lounge
  • New main entrance
On July 1, 2010, a construction strike halted all work at the site, and resumed too late for the work to be completed by opening day, August 25, 2010. With a massive effort of the building and ground staff, tech staff, and teachers and administrators, Memorial school was packed up and moved to the vacant Sandidge School for the 2010-2011 school year. Construction on Memorial was completed in December 2010.

Memorial school opened its doors to parents, students and staff on January 14, 2011 with a Sock Hop and opened for school in August of 2011.

The Fulton Construction Project

The New Fulton Pre-K through Fifth Grade School is a 550 student facility designed to consolidate Fulton and Sandidge Elementary Schools into one new and comprehensive school. It is designed to address the growth needs of the community and future goals of District 146. This elementary schoolís comprehensive program was a collaboration of efforts by the District 146 School Board, Administration, Faculty, Staff, and Dahlquist and Lutzow Architects, Ltd. Meetings and interviews were held with school administration and key staff from each department. The goal was to identify curriculum requirements, needs, standards and philosophy which would be a factor in determining the facilityís final design. The new Fulton opened in August of 2008. The building plan features:

  • classrooms integrating wireless technologies,
  • a Media Center that will serve as the hub for the new school,
  • assembly spaces including a Multi-Purpose Room and Gymnasium designed
  • to accommodate two physical education classes simultaneously,
  • early learning center,
  • general administration and support spaces.

Together, the School Board, Administration, Faculty, Staff, and Dahlquist and Lutzow Architects, Ltd. have designed a new facility that not only meets current needs, but will fulfill the Districtís goals for many years to come.
